So, I've crept behind my laptop to do some research on Skylander: Spyro's adventure. Turns out, it's not even fully a Spyro game! It seems to be more about all the other characters, from other games, the little Purple Dragon just being something they stuck in there.
I got this from a Dutch site, so I had to translate everything, it's in my own words, so it's not literally from the site.
In Skylanders: Spyro's adventure, you take on the mighty role of the Portal Master, who can choose out of over 30 characters. They once protected their own beautiful and spectacular world, but now they are chased out by the sinister Portal Master Kaos. They are trapped in our world as little toy figures, and you are the only one who can help them get back into their own world.
Each figure has it's own personality, traits and skills. They have their own element, consisting out of: Earth, Wind, Fire, Water, Life, Zombie, Magic and last but not least: Technology. Every character has their own challenging challenges, that will unlocked over the playing time.
Short description of characters:

He has had several adventures, and he knows more worlds that he has protected than all of the other Skylanders. Spyro is fearless and courageous, a real hero prepared to protect the world from any danger.
Element: Magic
First attack: Fire Breath
Second attack: Horn Charge
Teachable skills: Flight, Spread Fire, Aeriel Head Bash...
............
Now: my personal feedback on this.
Yes, I agree that Spyro has been through
several adventures. Adventures that were meant to form the foundation and core of the next game. He met many important dragons, in any case there could've been made a game about
them, too. And seriously, did they think that Spyro would look better after putting in a
blender? He's met the love of his life, made allies and friends, and now he's stuck into a game with 29 other characters. Spyro fans will choose Spyro as character, but people who don't know him will think the others are better. And seriously,
magic as element? What sets him apart from the other dragons, then? His ability to fly? His
Horn Charge? He's just like any other ordinary dragon. And they turned him into an
action figure!
Yes, they are supposed to drag in money, so even game makers are going for what the majority of gamers want. And that is an action game with plenty of old, known characters to choose from, and probably not a game all based on dragons. But they shouldn't have
bought Spyro from Sierra. Sierra should've kept him, try to keep going on, and make another game.
No matter how small or weird it would've been, it would've been
sold. Even The legend of Spyro: A new beginning, did well! And that was like any other game, except for the cut-scenes maybe. It was your average aim-and-shoot game, but there was a story behind. No, not behind it, the story was entwined in the game. It was a vital part, the thing that keeps the game going. It made it a success. And now there's nothing left of Sierra's work, because Spyro is brought back to the 'original' games. Worse. The originals were still 'his' games. Now he has to share it with 29 other characters.
I am not happy about this new game, but then again, I'm like, a die-hard Legend of Spyro fan. See all of this as a protest or something, haha.
